Lambda Theta Phi was founded on December 1, 1975, on the campus of Kean College in Union, New Jersey. In September of 1975, founding father Agustin "Gus" Garcia entered Kean College as a freshman. A politically active individual, he ran for a position on the freshman student council and became the first Latino elected to the Kean College student government. A man of vision, he was concerned over the disunity among the Latino students, and took it upon himself to organize the Latinos at Kean.

founders1Founding father Garcia and a group of other students met to find the solution to uniting the different Latino groups. The major topics of discussion at these meetings were the need to become politically conscious and active as Latino students. At a meeting on November 11, 1975, founding father Garcia proposed the idea of forming a fraternity.

About Beta Omicron: Following the vision that has been set forth by our Fraternal fathers of expansion that would reach college campuses nation wide, the very same idea of manifest destiny would soon reach Fresno by the hands of one brother, and the support of a nation of brothers. Looking to bring a national Latino Fraternity to a campus that was devoid of such representation, one brother sought to spread the ideals and mission of the First Nationally recognized Latino Greek Fraternity.
On November 4, 2001, a colony of Lambda Theta Phi was established by 8 dedicated individuals. On January 26, 2003, Beta Omicron was officially recognized as a chapter of Lambda Theta Phi.
